Period style build

Cavil House is a new build we completed in 2025 inspired by a mixture of Victorian and Federation era architecture.

This home embodies what our business was created to do. To stray from conventional modern design and go back in time to classical architecture. Homes of this era, while aesthetically beautiful, do however lack modern amenity and energy efficiency standards.

This is where we come in.

Blending classical design with modern construction methods, this home brings the best of both worlds together.

On the outside, the front facade features a bullnose verandah, blockface cladding, bullnose weatherboards and decorative gables. 

As you step inside, you are greeted by detailed plaster and trim work. Vic gutter cornices, ceiling roses, vj lining, and a variety of bolection moulds including picture rails, dado rails and wainscotting. To the left, the front sitting room includes a bay window with upholstered seating, wall panelling, a coffered ceiling and built in joinery. 

Across the entry hall is the master bedroom with a walk-in robe and ensuite featuring a large shower, freestanding bath and 2 pac painted double vanity.

As you work your way further down the hall there is a small office space with a pull-down ladder in the ceiling leading up to an impressive 12m2 enclosed attic space. Adjacent to the office is a powder room for guests featuring a moody ‘all green’ theme.

Three further bedrooms, all with their own character, make this a 4-bedroom home and at the end of the hall there is also a main bathroom, laundry and walk-in linen.

Our vision for this build included blending classical and modern design, which is evident when you step into the main living room. Here we incorporated modern open plan living to create a kitchen, dining and lounge space with a walk-in pantry and raked ceiling void. This build is on a typical town block of only 665m2, so skylights were adopted in this space to introduce light and maintain privacy from the neighbouring property.

An alfresco area off the main living room includes both indoor and outdoor spaces, flowing from a raised undercover timber deck and stepping down onto a travertine tiled dining space. 

There is also an attached double garage at the rear of the property accessed via a concrete driveway down the eastern side. 

The home has all the modern amenities you would expect from a new build including a 6 star energy rating, double glazed windows, solar hot water, ducted heating and cooling and modern industry standard waterproofing to all wet areas.

All the charm of a traditional period style home without the cold drafts, lack of insulation, leaks, water damage and timber rot often associated with these types’ homes simply due to their age and by gone building practices.
